Ece Akbay M.Ed., LMHC

Ece graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Bogazici University in Turkey as well as a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University in 2015. During her graduate studies she completed her practicum at Kent State University’s Counseling and Human Development Center and an internship at a community non-profit organization serving children, youth, and families. After graduation, and prior to establishing Akbay Mental Health Counseling services, Ece worked at a community mental health organization in Iowa City, working with clients of all ages and a variety of mental health needs.

 

Ece values the development of a trust-based relationship and the creation of a welcoming and non-judgmental space while working with her clients. Her therapy style is collaborative, strength-based, genuine, and supportive. She tailors her therapeutic techniques and interventions based on each individual's unique needs and background. In practice, Ece utilizes both humanistic and evidence-based treatment techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, existential therapy, and person-centered therapy.  

 

Ece has extensive experience working with clients to meet therapy goals targeting anxiety, depression, adjustment problems, mood disorders, self-esteem, stress management, relational concerns, emotional regulation, work/career challenges, multicultural counseling, and existential concerns.
